This is one of the old school surf spots that no longer fires like it used to but can still give a fun day out. It is suitable for surfers of all experience levels, and is a good place to practice your technique as getting it right can make the difference between an average surf session and a good one.
There is plenty of beach to go at here, all clean white sand starting from the point on the right and on up north towards Marsden Point. It's big enough so that it never gets crowded.
This place works best when the wind is coming from the west or the south-west and the swell is coming from the south-east, east or north-east. It works at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides, and the swell will typically start working at just under 1 m and hold up to around 3 m. It is a point break, only to the right, and the waves are hollow but not too fast and powerful. The length of the wave can be quite sure and may only be around 50 m, unless you catch it on a good day when it can be approaching 300 m.
There is a surf shop right here where you can get hold of any equipment you need, and parking is just off the Cove Road within a couple of minutes walk of the beach. It isn't a bad size town and if you are intending to stay you can either camp close by or take advantage of the rooms at the local resort.
There isn't much to worry about here, there can be some rips but if you get caught in one the worst that can happen is that you have a long walk back up the beach.
